How to plant the Gynura procumbens herb ?

Planting the Gynura procumbens plant is easy. All you have to do is to get a stem from a mature Gynura procumbens herb and plant in on a small pot or on a polybag. I will have the details below in a few minutes.

Get everything you need - a pot or poly bag, soil and mature Gynura procumbens plant.

Look for a mature stem. Cut it out from the mother plant. You may want to take off all the leaves or leave them intact.

I cut the stem into two so that I can plant them in separate flower pots. hence I can get two plants from it.

Fill up the pot with soil and simply insert the stems into the soil.

Water the plants and keep them under shade. (Do not keep them under direct sunlight or they will die). Wait for a few weeks, then you can see new leaves growing out from the stems. When the plants reached 1-2 months old, you may keep them directly under the sun. Keep them moistened (water them at least once a day) and put in some organic fertilizer.

Gynura Procumbens Vs Gynura Crepioides 

 

Some people have been confused about Gynura Procumbens and Gynura Crepioides explain the difference and similarities between the two.
Similarities:
- Both types of vegetables are grown in a similar way.  They both like partial sun/shade and can withstand full sun as long as the soil stays moist.
- They have similar tastes, but the Gynura Crepioides has a slight bitterness.
- They develop slight purple specks on the green stem when it's more mature.
Differences:
- Most research and reports from people about the benefits for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol is for the Gynura Procumbens.  
- Leaves of Gynura Procumbens are green on both sides.
- Leaves of Gynura Crepioides are green on top side and bottom side is purple.
- Shape of the Gynura Crepioides leaves are more narrow and is saw-like where as Gynura Procumbens are more smooth, and the width of the leaves are wider.

Cholesterol spinach is including to the family Compositae. In medical, tree have many names such: Gynura nepalensis (cholesterol plant) and Gynura acutifolia.

The leaves of the cholesterol spinach can eat in fresh condition, taste not bad, just like lettuce. Some people in Indonesia eat like salads or include them in soups or with any other dishes. This plants can grow faster, just put watering and light. To propagate cholesterol spinach is very easy, just take tip cuttings (2 or 3 leaves) dip the cut end in the rooting hormone included and then put it  in the pack or area with moist soil.
